My Mother Has Angels Watching Over Her
It happened again last Thursday, before mother could even get out of the car, we all knew she had been in an accident. As mother was crossing the intersection of Sunset and Federal, a lady in a brand new never been licensed Toyota, not paying attention to the traffic signals and everything else going on around her, slammed into my mother as she was cautiously going from west to the east across Federal Drive. I say cautiously because the woman in the back seat, had just been released from the hospital from having a knee surgery and mother was giving her a ride home. Sarah saw the lady fail to stop at the red light and braced herself as she informed mom that the lady was going to hit them. The collision took off the front bumper and damaged her front end as well as smashed her passenger side back door, as the car spun around and hit the other ladies back end as she continued north through the intersection. The lady must have been traveling fast and did not attempt to apply her brakes to avoid the accident, because her car ended up in the middle of the next block even though her left front tire was disabled. Mother ended up with a couple bruises and I don't think anything happened to Sarah which was a blessing in itself. Had mother been a few feet farther into the intersection the story could have been very tragic.
The amazing part of her story is that before she even got out of the car, Greg knew she had been in an accident. His sister in-law drives for FedEx. She had been one of the first people to see that mom had been in an accident. She called Lori, Greg's wife after she called 911 and then Lori called Greg. As mom got out of the car, Greg had called to see that she was alright.
Lance who was just heading back to Utah received a call from his friend Mandy who had also seen the accident and called him to tell him. He immediately went to the seen and was there to give her a ride home after all was said and done. Lance took pictures with his phone and sent them to family members. In a few minutes, you could see Lilly and Bill on the corner giving support and ready to assist in any way they could.
As I was sitting in my class at school, Ianswered a called from a former student who also came upon the wreck and thought that mother was me. She asks if I am okay and I tell her I am, that I am sitting in class and why would she ask with so much concern in her voice. She tells me of the accident she just saw and the lady looked just like me. My next question was "What color was the car?" and she responded with the color I dreaded to hear, "Red." I tell her that it is my mother and would she please go make sure she is okay and tell her that I am on my way. I arrived with in a few short minutes. The ambulance drivers checked everyone to make sure there were no broken bones or body damage. After everyone was released to leave the scene, I took Sarah the rest of the way home while Lance took Gram home.
Gram had just told Greg that she thought she should start looking for a new car just a few days before. It seems that each time she begins to think about a new car, she gets one the hard way.
The last time she got a new car was after a tragic accident on her way to Utah. We had bought her her first cell phone as she was leaving town. I told her not to use it unless she had pulled off the road. After she had been gone for many hours, I figures she should have arrived in Utah so I called to check on her. Not being familiar with her phone, she looked to figure it out. When she looked back at the highway she was heading for the linear post and she over-corrected her steering. To make a long story shorter, it was me who made the call that ultimately was the cause of her rolling her car before the turn off to Ogden. The miracle was that when the car rolled, the cell phone hit something that called our house where the children were home from school. When I arrived home, they hurried out to tell me that Grandma had wrecked her car. I ask how they knew and they said they were listening to it on the phone. They heard her accident on the phone. They heard the people who stopped to make sure she was okay. they heard her get out of the car. They could hear all of the conversation with the Highway Patrol officer, the ambulance driver and the tow truck. We knew she was okay, that she was riding to the next town with the tow truck driver. We called her sister to let her know what was going on so she would be ready to go pick her up. When all was figured out we hung up and called her cell phone to say, " MOM we know you were in an accident. We can come and get you when ever you need us to." Aunt Sherry and Uncle Richard took the opportunity to bring her home when she was done visiting there.
It is evident that mom has a guardian angel (probably dad) who is with her and watches out for her. For that angel, we are eternally grateful for we know that when mom needs us we will be notified immediately by what ever means is available to make us aware.
Even the title of this post is evident that shw has an angel watching over.... HER!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are ever so grateful that she is okay. We need you gram! I love you! And congratulations, Mom, on your first post. May this be the first of many years of posting to come! Love you both!
